Living in London in 2011, I was alerted to the soulful sounds of Michael Kiwanuka upon watching Jools Holland to see the new material from Oasis legend Noel Gallagher. Some might call it a clash of interest, some might call it leaving the Youtube stream playing whilst continuing to write a frustrating 3000 word assignment but from that first strum of the guitar and the somewhat reverb-y vocals, I was hooked,. There’s something different to the sound. It’s not auto-tuned, it’s not corrected, it’s just quite simply, beautiful.  The rise of Kiwanuka over the years has been steady but finally, the news has broken that Kiwanuka is 2016 is back bigger than ever.

Home Again released in 2012 was a breakthrough album and something that made the world stand up and take notice. Love and Hate the new record is to be released on the 27th of May, with the first single dropping in the last few days. Black Man in a White Man’s World is a song that develops on the signature sound of Kiwanuka that we have grown to love off the debut. Infectious reverb-y guitar, this is one of the most exciting album releases of 2016. Get it around your chops down below and then get excited for May 27th. In the years preceding this great news, Kiwanuka covered the masterful Hendrix track ‘Waterfall’.

More news soon.
