Lady Of The Sunshine- Smoking Gun

Under the moniker of Lady of the Sunshine, Angus Stone most prominent for his work with his sister Julia, released an album of acoustic tracks his new debut solo record Smoking Gun. Not worlds apart from the tunes he writes in the other project, this release sees Stone turn to the electric guitar and create somewhat edgier pop tunes. Recorded in an old converted water tank over the course of just six weeks, the result is an album that is quite delicate in parts but then at the opposite end of the spectrum can be quite head banging and ball tearing.

Influenced by the likes of Rage Against The Machine and Red Hot Chili Peppers, ‘White Rose Parade’ is a song that although is simple in the instrumentation and structure is one of the highlights off this record. ‘Jack Nimble’ follows on the story of the old nursery rhyme of Jack and Jill and uses fuzzed out electric guitar and delicate piano to strong effect.

‘Big Jet Plane’ is one of the biggest Angus and Julia Stone hits and on Smoking Gun you are able to hear the original. If you’re looking for a release that has many different musical textures and elements of light and shade. Check out Lady of the Sunshine.

Angus and Julia Stone are currently working on the follow up to their 2010 album Down The Way which is due towards the later part of 2014. In the meantime this should help your cravings.
