New treatment procedures include intravitreal or subscleral application of agents inhibiting angiogenesis and a combination of photodynamic therapy with either intravitreal application of triamcinolone or angiogenesis-inhibiting agents. The indications for combination treatment and the optimal choice of drug for specific CNV locations or sizes are currently being investigated in detail. ¼ Optical coherence tomography appears to helpful for treatment control and planning of repeat treatment. References Barbazetto I, Burdan A, Bressler NM, et al.
The identification of the extent and location of a classic CNV is not sufficiently reliable without additional fluorescein angiography. ¼ Despite numerous publications on ICG angiography in AMD, the classification and established therapeutic protocols of the CNV are currently based on fluorescein angiography, as defined by the Macular Photocoagulation Study Group. Diagnostic Problems 11 ¼ Not every area of late hyperfluorescence in ICG angiography is evidence of an occult CNV. Late hyperfluorescence can be observed in some diseases of the choroid— for example, choroidal hemangioma and central serous chorioretinopathy.
