Boy and Bear

BOY AND BEAR ARE ABOUT TO RELEASE THEIR HIGHLY ANTICIPATED THIRD RECORD ‘LIMIT OF LOVE’, RECORDED IN LONDON IN PETER GABRIEL’S, THIS ALBUM IS THE MOST EXPANSIVE THING THAT THE BAND HAS EVER DONE. CREATING NEW SOUNDS AND EXPLORING DIFFERENT LANDSCAPES ON THIS ALBUM, IT IS SURE TO WARM YOUR HEART AND BECOME (LIKE HARLEQUIN DREAM AND MOONFIRE BEFORE) A FAVOURITE OF THE AUSTRALIAN MUSIC SCENE.

Most recently, I got the opportunity to sit down with Killian Gavin guitarist for the band to have a chat ahead of the release of the album. It’s been a long day of promotion for the record and when I finally get on the phone with Gavin he is still as chirpy as ever as we chat about Limit of Love. “It’s an interesting time to think about the release of the album, because when your making the record, you are covered up with excitement and passion that your not even thinking about it. Then you get to this limbo period, where you have time to process what people’s response will be.”

If you remember back upon the release of their previous record, Boy and Bear were on top of the world and Harlequin Dream still today is one of those timeless records that you are able to indulge yourself in time and time again. So did the band ever feel any pressure heading into the recording of this one? “As you record more and more, you figure out what the best way to record is and what works for you. This time we headed over to London and worked with Ethan Johns who has worked with the likes of Ryan Adams, Paul McCartney, Kaiser Chiefs and Laura Marling to name but just a few. We really wanted to capture the live feeling of the band this time around and I think that we really hit the mark with this album and you will be able to hear that in the songs.”

Recording at Real World Studios with Johns is probably every musicians dream, and as Gavin related there was everything you ever needed to make the perfect record at the facility. “It was easy to get lost in this isolated world and see nothing but the fields and rolling hills. It’s like being trapped in a time capsule that has given birth to so many amazing records and Peter literally lives up the stream and canoes down to the studio when he feels like it. It was quite possibly one of the coolest experiences that we have had as a band. It’s weird you’ve gotta sort of pinch yourself every now and then, your in a world where you never thought you would ever be.”

At the beginning of releasing Harlequin Dream, Boy and Bear had quite a small profile overseas however through breaking into the US and Canadian music markets, they have since become one of the hottest around. With this record, Boy and Bear are set to once again steal your heart with their crooning melodies and awesome laid back tunes. Playing at Festival Hall in Melbourne on the 23rd of January, make sure you grab tickets to this show, because it will definitely be one of the gigs of the year.
