Album Review – Band Of Skulls – Sweet Sour

Posted by: on Jul 4, 2012 | No Comments

Sweet Sour, the latest and sophomore release from British rock band Band of Skulls, from the very first note, develops on the sound they brought us with Baby Darling Doll Face Honey in 2009. Opening with the title track, you are immediately presented with a pounding rock riff that engrains itself in your mind and your body will soon join in tapping along with the beat.

From there, Russell Marsden’s heavy electric guitar and Emma Richardson’s bass don’t let up, and continue to groove through the song ‘Bruises’ and ‘The Devil Takes Care Of His Own’. Having witnessed their crazily energetic stageshow whilst they supported The Black Keys in London earlier this year, if you have scored yourself some tickets to Splendour in the Grass or a sideshow, you better polish off your dancing shows as they will definitely be required.

This album is full of rockin’ gems, but if I had to narrow it down to my favourite track, it would be a close fight between ‘Sweet Sour’ or ‘Your Not Pretty But You Got It Goin’ On’.  Definitely a must for any guitar enthusiast or just anyone looking for an album full of catchy riffs and good times.
