Asgeir- In The Silence

At the tender age of just 21, it seems that Asgeir Trausti has come out of nowhere with some incredible indie folk music and is now taking the world by storm. Recently announced as one of the acts coming out for the massive Splendour In The Grass over the last weekend in July, Australia will not have to wait too long to see these incredible tunes performed live, yet this album has been kicking around Iceland for a good twelve months.

From the opening glittered piano chord of ‘Higher’, In The Silence is a very impressive debut record. If you still have no idea who I am talking about, it would be a safe bet to say that it is a cross between Mumford and Sons, Bon Iver, Alt-J and even channelling English electro producer James Blake with some of the beats backing his soothing vocals. The horn section on the title track ‘In The Silence’ is sounding very much like fellow Icelandic musicians Of Monsters and Men.

There is nothing more to say about Asgeir but if you are looking for a chilled out way to start your morning or relax, don’t overlook this guy. Blissful acoustic electronica from a guy that is bound for big things over the next twelve months.
