Album Reviews – Michael Kiwanuka – Home Again

I remember discovering the amazing sounds of Michael Kiwanuka, as if it was yesterday. I was streaming an episode of Jools Holland (whilst I was in England) and after watching Noel Gallagher in his new solo format, I heard the soft guitar and soulful vocals of Kiwanuka to a song called ‘I’m Getting Ready’. Upon looking up his website and seeing his live show for ten bucks, I was hooked and on the bandwagon. When I got back to Australia, I was surprised that no body knew whom this astounding musician was.

Recently, being announced on the Splendour lineup and with his debut record entitled ‘Home Again’ hitting our shores a month ago, it isn’t long until Australia fall in love with him. Opening with ‘Tell Me A Tale’, you are instantly transported away into a different world and there can be comparisons drawn to soul legends Otis Redding and Bill Withers.

There is not a song on the album that I don’t like and my favourite track is ‘I’m Getting Ready’ it stands to be a strong contender for album of the year, everything about it just works and there is no other advice than if your going to Splendour or any of his sideshows check out his live show which is AHMAZING! and grab one of the hottest albums of the year thus far!
